The most special places in the North of Tenerife

The most special places in the North of Tenerife

If you ask people what is their favourite site in Tenerife, they will tell you about the beautiful beaches in the South and the mighty El Teide. Despite that, we think that the North of the island has something unique to offer for all of you – beautiful cities, good food, scenic beaches and impressive cliffs. Here are our favourite suggestions for you.

Icod de los Vinos – a city close to your heart Icod is surrounded by a romantic atmosphere and it offers you the opportunity to walk between seignioral houses and historic buildings. The plaza in the middle of the city has the appearance of a botanical garden. Walking around Icod gives you the feeling that you went back in time, like 500 years ago. There are two unique things about this site – firstly, here you can find Cueva del Viento, the largest volcanic cave in Europe. It is what geologists call a lava tube – this basically means that it was formed by the flow of lava. Secondly, the 22 meter high Drago Millenario is a magnificent tree that has witnessed the entire history of the city. It is the oldest of its kind.

Los Roques Beach – for the photographer in you

This is probably the best place in Tenerife for your Instagram shot. Just remember to go there when the tide is low so that you can actually walk all the way to the beautiful rock formations that are competing against gravity. Maybe it is not the beach of choice for swimming and sunbathing but it certainly is the place to go for all those passionate about photography.

The pools in Bajamar

The pools in Bajamar – have fun like in the good old days

This is such an entertaining place because you can enjoy the playful ocean waves without any danger. There are two big pools and a small one situated right on the edge of the ocean. Being an area well known for the big waves, you can have fun with the splashes coming straight to you, inside the pool. It is definitely a family-friendly destination.

Mirador de San Pedro – the place that takes your breath away

There are so many beautiful viewpoints in the North from where you can admire the ocean and the notched cliffs but this is the best. Also, it offers some of the best views for sunset watching. Located close to Puerto de la Cruz and right above Paisaje Protegido de Rambla de Castro, there is no place like it. Palm trees will be in the center of attention. Also, it is a very nice place for easy hikes. Enjoy a glass of wine on your way back.
