Amazing places to visit in Tenerife

Awesome hiking destinations in Tenerife

Tenerife is a paradise when it comes to hiking. You have so many trails to try – all of them giving you a different understanding of the diverse landscape in Tenerife. We created a list with our favourite places for hiking on the island.

Cuevas Negras

Cuevas Negras

You can enjoy this beautiful trail starting from either Los Silos or Erjos, it’s up to you. The stairs take you to a serene place surrounded by black and brown cliffs. You get the best views of Montana de Taco, an old, tiny volcano situated in the municipality of Los Silos that is used as a water reservoir now. Cuevas Negras literally means black caves – on each side of the trail you will be able to see impressive caves. If you want to, you can leave the main path and choose to see the Lomo Morin waterfall as well. This way, at the end of the day, you will have nice memories and pictures of caves, huge cliffs and impressive landscapes of Isla Baja.

Barranco de Chamorga and Faro de Anaga

This is a circular route that will take you from the small and romantic village of Chamorga to a remote beach in Anaga called Roque de Bermejo. On the way, you will be able to see beautiful houses, remote gardens and maybe some goats enjoying their day peacefully. The lighthouse gives you an amazing view of the ocean. We recommend having a picnic on the beach because it is so serene and there are not many people around. The Rural Park of Anaga is a very peaceful place to spend your afternoon. Once you get back to Chamorga, you can enjoy a cold beer in the local bar and also have some lunch. In the afternoon, you can see the locals having a chat in the village or playing chess on the benches, so you can have a full authentic experience.

Los Organos

Los Organos

If you are a fan of relaxing walks in pine forests, this trail is for you. It is located in the North of Tenerife, on the main road that leads to El Teide from La Orotava. The path will take you to a huge cliff that resembles an organ. There are some springs on your way so there is no need to worry about freshwater this time. There are plenty of hiking choices in the area so maybe you should look out for those who seem the most attractive. Some hidden paths take you to beautiful viewpoints of Teide and the valley of La Orotava and others take you up the mountain, all the way to the National Park of Teide.

Barranco del Infierno

Barranco del Infierno is a breathtaking canyon that takes you to the heart of the mountain. It is located very close to Adeje, and that is why it is best to go there in the morning – it usually gets quite hot in the afternoon. At the end of the path, there is a serene waterfall waiting for you. In order to get there, you need to make a reservation and buy the entrance tickets here. We recommend this place because it has amazing flora and fauna and also because the path is well taken care of. There are not many places as breathtaking as this one so it should definitely be on your list.
